Breaking news--Teresa Romero has tested negative for the virus. This after quite an ordeal, obviously, with a series of ups and downs while in intensive care at Carlos III hospital in Madrid.
Not too much to say except that this is fantastic news--further tests are needed to confirm, and I'm not sure how much longer she has to stay away from the public at this point--but yet another reason to see Ebola cases outside of west Africa as a series of "sparks" that we need to quickly respond to--not as potential harbingers of doom that mean we need to appoint czars and elect republicans and return cruise ships and quarantine airplanes and generally self-destruct.
That said--we have an absolutely enormous amount still to do in West Africa. Perhaps news like this will help us to focus there--instead of diverting all our attention to isolated cases in the U.S. and Europe.
Hope Romero returns home soon.
Also, the quarantine for family/friends who were first in contact with Thomas Duncan ends tonight. They're going to have it rough. For several reasons. I hope people in their area look out for them. I worry.
