The Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) has endorsed Mark Begich in the Senate race, after a recent debate between Begich and Dan Sullivan (R).
I hadn't seen this reported yet within the DailyKos community, and since I've become quite the election news junkie in this nail-biting cycle, I thought it was worth sharing some good news. I am told by friends who live in Alaska that this is actually a big deal, given the demographics of Alaska and the AFN's ability to bring out voters who often are marginalized.
More below the squiggle.
The AFN has recent convened their 2014 convention, at which Begich and Sullivan participated in a debate. Highlights from the debate include discussions of environmental issues, among other topics.
The conclusion, as reported here:
As the 2014 Alaska Federation of Natives convention wound to a close Saturday, attendees heard from ever-popular Sen. Lisa Murkowski, approved a slew of resolutions and voted in a new co-chair of their board.
The resolutions included an endorsement of Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Begich, who is seeking to be re-elected Nov. 4, and an endorsement of the so-called “unity” ticket of independent gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker and his running mate, Democrat Byron Mallott.
In more mixed news for many readers at Dailykos:
The AFN delegates also approved a resolution in opposition to a ballot measure that would legalize and regulate recreational marijuana in Alaska.
A recent poll has suggested that Begich has a lead over Sullivan, but every new endorsement or GOTV opportunity helps!
