So, earlier today, I wrote and commented about my very, very, super-important, world changing new hashtag movement (#ChuckChuckTodd) and Twitter page (@ChuckChuckTodd). As a side note, I also mentioned GOTVing. (The overlooked missive can be found below the squiggle).
Creating the world changing hashtag and Twitter page took a few minutes and I never had to leave my couch. The GOTVing took more than four hours (including travel time) and I not only had to change out of my pajamas but I think I wore out a pair of shoes.
I must admit to being a little frustrated by the results. My quick and easy sure-fire hashtag/Twitter movement gained one retweet and one favorite (but, oh my word, was it a GREAT favorite..this might actually go somewhere!). My GOTV effort required hours and I had to be, like, dressed and outside and walking and talking to people.
I talked to a lot of people. And the vast majority were excited that I was there to help them feel more connected to this critical election. And some actually needed me because their personal circumstances put them at risk of having their vote moved to "provisional" in the wacky but still beautiful state of North Carolina.
So let's definitely #ChuckChuckTodd but let's also GOTV. It matters. Get out there. There are only seven days left to make this happen.
With a couple of hours on my hands before my next canvassing shift to get out the vote here in central North Carolina, I decided to take a few minutes to do something really significant.
I created a hashtag! #ChuckChuckTodd
I also created a Twitter page @ChuckChuckTodd. But as you can see from the screengrab, I did it wrong because my own name is showing up. This kind of sucks but, not being a Twitterer (Tweeter?), I can't figure out how to change it.
Anyway, my new movement was inspired by Laurence Lewis' excellent diary about how the less than talented Todd has once again disqualified himself from journalism. And like all other hashtag activism, I am sure my little foray is going rock the world!
But just in case my campaign to #ChuckChuckTodd doesn't go viral in the next five minutes and change both the standards of political journalism and politics itself in this country, I'm putting on my walking shoes to go knock on doors.
#ChuckChuckTodd and, more importantly, GOTV!
Seven days until Election Day. If you are in the North Carolina Triangle Area and wondering how you can get involved in the GOTV effort, feel free to KosMail me.
