We're a week from the mid-term elections, and there are others who have that covered far better than I could do. We are three days from Halloween...and I think I can manage a little summpin' summpin' on that score!
Hop over the squished candy corn and let's see what we can come up with.
First of all, as we all know....Halloween is not Satan's Holiday. Satan doesn't take a holiday, as the traffic is too heavy and he's a cranky thing at the best of times.
Yeah, yeah....you're evil, we get it. Sheesh. Just wait till I get that joint air conditioned!
Halloween is a corruption of All Hallow's Eve, the day when we honour those who have shuffled off the mortal coil before us, and pray that they all stay on the other side, where they belong!
As with most Christian holidays and feasts, it has it's roots firmly in more pagan ground.
My ancestors, most of whom were pagan heathens with a healthy sense of the uses and fun of Par-tay....celebrated a slightly different festival. For us, there was/is The Feast of Samhain
Even the wonderful tradition of carving pumpkins into JacK-o'-lanterns has its roots with my pagan forbears. It was not intended to be the name of a strange and peculiar craft beer!
But if you're going to put knife to gourd, at least make it easy on yourselves with a few lessons.
There are the innocent pursuits for things like bobbing for apples...
The most fun part though, is dressing up, isn't it? As long as we don't get carried away and scare the bejeebers out of people!
So, unless your favourite part is the candy part of Halloween, which I certainly understand...
What is your favourite part of Halloween? Or do you ignore it altogether?
Whatever is on your mind tonight...feel free to bring it to the table. This is, as always, an open thread.
One last thing....please remember that this is a time when we need to look out for those among us who cannot always protect themselves....
Sadly, Halloween is a dangerous time for our furry friends who look like Basement Cat. Some humans are simply too stupid to be trusted around them, so please...if yours is one of these beauties, keep a very close eye on them, especially at the weekend. Ceiling Cat and I appreciate it. ♥
