Friday, aside from being Halloween, was my secondborn's ninth wedding anniversary. They are still happily married, and look to be for the foreseeable future.
Saturday was my youngest nephew's birthday - If I'm figuring correctly, he's 29 now. It would have been a paternal aunt's 86th birthday as well, but she died a few years back.
Today would have been my father's 88th birthday, but he died of cancer in December of 1986. It is also the anniversary of my first divorce (1991).
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Tomorrow is the 110th anniversary of my paternal grandfather's birth. November 6 is the day my secondborn turns 32, and my brother next after me (the father of the youngest nephew) turns 60 on the 12th. On the maternal side of the family, there are a lot of birthdays in March and April (including my sister, me and my firstborn - this is birth order, the days in the month are the reverse of this, and fall within a 7-day span).
My granddaughter's soccer game on Saturday happened, but I didn't see it. It was a 9:00 AM game and my grandson was still asleep when time to leave came, so I babysat. He woke up eventually, came downstairs and, when I asked, told me he didn't want breakfast yet, coughed a bit, opened a board game that was sitting on the footstool, told me he was going back to bed, went upstairs, and came down again just as his mother and sister were coming in. He must have gone back to sleep because I didn't hear him moving around.
I'm told the score was 3 to 2 - they still lost, but they are getting much better at the game.
When I called my secondborn to wish her a happy anniversary, she told me they had just moved. They had been living in a place that belongs to a friend of theirs and were planning to stay, but while he was living out of state, he got married and it seems his new wife has problems dealing with people she doesn't know very well. Ah, well. My son-in-law had the day off and they had gone out to lunch at El Torito Grill (I remember it fondly, myself). And I was the first person they had given their new address to - it just so happened that I called. I told her to give it to my mother - she will be sending something for the birthday and she gets antsy about having the correct address.
Today's big event is a visit to the library with my granddaughter. We're going to the Central branch this time instead of Midlands. I'll be treating her to lunch - and probably NOT dessert. There are several places near the Central Library that have both good food that kids like and reasonable prices. Portland, Oregon, is a foodie town, after all. We'll be going to a sit-down restaurant - the food cart pods can wait till summer.
