Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Coffee Hour at Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can discuss what’s happening in our lives, what we’ve been working on, and our opinions on current events. I thought we might talk about dogs today.
Dogs were the first animals domesticated by humans. At the present time, it appears that dogs were domesticated from wolves and that the process of domestication may have taken place more than once. The lives of people and dogs have been closely intertwined for thousands of years.
In the United States, the number of households with dogs grew significantly following World War II due to increased suburbanization. At the present time, the American Kennel Club recognizes 177 different breeds. The most popular breeds include Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherd Dogs, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, Bulldogs, Yorkshire Terriers, Boxers, Poodles, Rottweilers, and Dachshunds. The least popular are Norwegian Lundehunds, American Foxhounds, and English Foxhounds. The most popular dog names are Bella, Bailey, Max, Lucy, Molly, Buddy, Daisy, Maggie, Charlie, and Sophie.
The questions for today:
Do you currently have a dog?
Is your dog a recognized breed or simply a dog?
What is your dog’s name and why did you give it that name?
Is your dog a part of your family?
Feel free to post pictures in the comments.
This is an open thread, all topics are welcome.
