Scotland had the right idea. When they had the vote for independence, they made the day a national holiday. They had over 80% turn-out. Now Bernie Sanders wants to do the same here.
Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is proposing legislation that would make election day a national holiday. It would be a great step in at least freeing-up people to get to the polls and it would be easier than trying to amend the Constitution to change the day of elections from Tuesday to the weekend. Yes, I know that many people will take Monday off and go on a long-weekend trip, but it's still a step in the right direction. What do you think? Will giving people the day off get them to the polls?
