I generally describe myself as having the constitution of an ox. My health is excellent, and I mostly take care of myself. It's that "mostly" that kicks me in the ass sometimes.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Well, actually, in the small of the back. Follow me over the orange whatever, if you want to find out what my most recent spate of idiocy achieved.
I spent most of this past week with great pain in the small of my back. I left work after about half a day on Monday; I lasted about an hour longer on Tuesday; I only made it through the entire 8 hours the other days because I had remembered what caused the problem while I was flat on my back in my living room on Monday and had started doing what was necessary about it. Drinking lots of water.
To my great embarrassment, I can tell you what I need to do if I actually want to cripple myself. Stop drinking water. Which is something I had let sluff off over the last couple of months. It wasn't even that I wasn't getting a fair amount of liquid - I like coffee, and tea, and the occasional beer, and have been known to drink milk, besides the fact that I really like soup (enough that I frequently make my own from scratch). But my body needs plain water, and it wasn't getting enough.
Pain, pain, pain. And embarrassment. I really do know better than to do that to myself.
Other than that, at work, the promotion for the Chinese lady who works in the lab FINALLY went through! She's worked for us for three or four years now, and (in my opinion) earned this promotion within the first six months.
On the home front, my daughter and grandson are sick. Not very sick - just enough to make daily life a small misery. I will be delighted when they are well again, since last-minute babysitting calls (while certainly understandable) tend to disrupt my own plans. One of which is getting my dining area straightened up enough that I can get the lighting fixture repaired - it went belly-up a few days ago. I'm sure it's the wiring because the fuses are fine and the lightbulbs are all new as of a couple months ago. I like the fixture. I want it repaired, rather than replaced.
I went to a birthday party on Saturday. I don't know how many of you know Lainie (that's her user name here), since she hasn't showed up much recently, but I've known her for nine years going on ten now. We got acquainted online and then found out we live just a few miles apart. I believe chimene has known her even longer - they were both in the SCA in Eugene for several years, and chimene has said several times that Lainie's kids used to babysit hers. Well, anyway, she was born on November 22, 1965.
The party was the kind I like - feed them well and let them talk. The food (I had been told to not expect very much) was almost in piles - if that is "not very much", I'm not sure I want to see what "a lot" would be. And that was just when I arrived. About half an hour before I left, several people showed up with a lot more piles of food. And two birthday cakes - one orange (Lainie's favorite color) at least if I interpreted the decorations and the smell correctly, and the other chocolate with caramel.
With any luck today I will get my laundry and grocery shopping done, and clear off the dining table.
