Darren Wilson's testimony about how he was struck in the face by Michael Brown does not square with photos of his apparent injury.
Wilson's description of how he received a facial injury.
According to
his grand jury testimony, Wilson was driving in his car when he noticed Brown had cigarillos in his hand and realized Brown was the suspect in an earlier robbery. Wilson then describes how Brown verbally challenges him, then reaches into Wilson's car and strikes him in the face with a punch. Crucially, Wilson says Brown's right hand was used in the punch.
Presumably, we would expect this punch to have struck Wilson on the left side of his face, as that was the side of his face that would be facing the driver's window. Wilson says he tried to dodge the punch, but for Brown's right hand to strike Wilson'd right cheek, Wilson would have had to turn into the punch and not away from it, which seems improbable.
Despite what we would expect, the redness on Wilson's face (which prosecutor Robert McCulloch described as swollen) appears on his right cheek.
Why does this discrepancy exist?
