It has been a long dry spell between the release of Siege of Orgrimmar and this week, but the wait was finally over.
We brought the flexorama into the new level 100 world on Tuesday night. I feel bad that we only had 30 slots for raiders, we had more than 30 people with good gear and great attitudes. There is talk of a second run at normal mode later this week, keep an eye on the website if you’re in guild, we will try to advertise as much as possible.
The flex team tackled the New Normal Mode (I’m still calling it flexorama because I really like that name) and we had great time and got great loots. Kargath is the first encounter, and the lead-up to facing him is really well designed. The encounter itself is fairly simple and pretty awesome. You’re in an arena, there are tiger pits and pillars of flame, and a few lucky people get periodically tossed to the stands where they get to beat up the spectators. Take that, Drunken Bileslingers! Then it was on to the Butcher, who should be familiar to anyone who ever played Diablo. Same voice files and everything, hah! We had a few glitches with positioning and prompting people to step in the right spots, but after a few tries he fell down and gave us more loot.
Team Kaels reconvened later that evening to tackle Heroic Mode, with a few welcome additions from our other raid groups who plan to start their progression a little later in the year. We had a few troubles with Kargath when things that didn’t hurt much in normal mode started hurting really, really badly, but with coordination and cooldowns in all the right places and white knuckle gameplay, we beat him. So we went to the Butcher, which was thoroughly awful. Try as we might, execute as perfectly as we could, we could not get him below 40% before things started falling apart and we hit enrage a few times. Later on I read that Heroic Butcher is tuned to require 19k dps from all the dps’ers, so I think this is one of those fights where we’re going to need more gear. Last night, Team Kaels reconvened to try a different boss, Brackenspore. This is a fun and hectic fight involving evil creeping moss and friendly mushrooms and flamethrowers. We had some good progress on the fight itself and got him below 15% a couple times, but did not manage to kill him. Oh, well, we’re learning and it’s a fun fight.
I was seeing people go left and right to random encounters with the new world boss, Tarlna. So early Wednesday night I organized an impromptu guild raid (with pugs) on this guy. I had pugged it earlier in the day and it was a nightmare, tons of adds everywhere, people dying and running back, huge repair bills. So I was apprehensive. But I should not have been. Adds were melting, people got out of the giant cone of slamming hurt and stepped on the little flowers before they became big hurting flowers. And so it died too.
