Relatively early in 2012 I wrote a Top Comments diary about ‘trusted users.’
On Daily Kos, the concept has a specific meaning: through site participation (commenting in diary comment threads), a user has acquired enough ‘mojo’ (from positive comment ratings) to achieve 3 bars of mojo (out of a possible 5).Then (and for as long as one maintains that minimum mojo level), one is a ‘trusted user.’ It is a part of Daily Kos culture.
That old diary was the story about how, for me, trust did not come from viewing someone’s profile to see the three (or more) bars and the TU badge. It comes from perception of the human heart, from a person’s commitment to others, from someone’s contributions, her/his spirit, humor, energy.
More below, but first, a word from our sponsor ...

In Top Comments, I am in the middle of ‘users’ I trust implicitly. brillig, someone I have not met in person, is one of my best friends. With an incredible heart, great good humor, and a never-say-die Democratic spirit. Her predecessor in Top Comments administration, sardonyx, is another amazing person, with a giving spirit and generosity toward us all.
I have the same trust for Chrislove, for emeraldmaiden, for Steven Payne, Tara the Antisocial Social Worker, boran2, Ed Tracey, Carnacki, cskendrick, gizmo59, cohenzee, mik … lotac, Puddytat … what a fine group! It is an honor to be teammates with them!
I said this, in that old diary:
Trusted usership isn’t an issue of mojo. It is an issue of the human heart. It is knowing that I am one with my brothers and sisters of color. It is knowing that I am one with my brothers and sisters of gender (identity or orientation or both!). It is knowing that I am one with those less fortunate than I, that our hopes for a more cooperative, more peaceful, more loving world will come to pass. That we will make them come to pass.
Do you agree? Are there things you would add?
Who are the ones who inspire your trust? Who stimulate your heart and mind? For whom do you perform that function? Share with us your heroes here!
Oh, and if you have some time, please support the subscription drive navajo is conducting just next door! It is a wonderful way to help build community and show support for those you trust.
