I know some of you are barely mobile after your Christmas feast (or Chinese restaurant dinner), so I'll keep this short and sweet. Well, maybe not all that sweet since I'm still miserable after spending nearly all of yesterday on the phone with tech support and the computer still ain't right.
I did a Star Wars 7 diary way back in April when the first official information started to come to light. Now, we have a trailer that had millions of views in the first day it appeared (now over 50 million). You can see it below the orange cheese curd.
Think of it as a last minute holiday gift from your (cheap) host tonight.

The trailer is enticing. You betcha we're excited. Until the very last frame where we're told we have to wait until December of next year to see it. Ohhhhh, mannnnn!
Fans of the original have been in drooling anticipation for well over a year already as original cast members were signed on for the new episodes. A lot of us were also disappointed that the prequel of 3 films wasn't quite as awesome as we expected the story should have been and are hoping that the latest films will be better (and hoping JJ Abrams doesn't screw it up). That makes this new wait even more difficult to bear.
But adding the trailer at this time just makes it worse by reminding us of how far into the future we have to wait and making us want to see it even more. Also worried that the story line will be poor and characters wooden (Anakin Skywalker, I'm looking at you) or just plain silly (Jar Jar Binks).
By the time it's released, maybe we'll have flying cars! Or robot maids! Maybe even some peace on earth (certainly long overdue)! Mumble, grumble, groan, moan.
I know it takes time to create an awesome film loaded with special effects, but the trailer could have been held until the wait wasn't over a year away. Sure, a Christmas release always brings in more money, but I don't think they need a holiday enticement for people to stand in line to see the film.
So we're going to wait and wait some more. Like Christmas next year, along with death and taxes, we know it's coming. If patience is a virtue, I'm not virtuous on this one.
Hope your holidays were excellent.
