Navy Vet Terp says, "Much of the Babylonian Talmud is now on line. For example, google Talmud Shabbat or Talmud Bava Metzia and it comes up. When I cite to the Talmud, I always link to it if it's available on line. The difficulty is you have to have some idea of what you are looking for, google it, and hope what you are looking for pops up. It doesn't always work, but it's a lot easier than pre-internet."

Sat. Feb. 14 Mishpatim ► Exodus 21,1-24,18 Jeremiah 34,8-22; 33,25-26
Correction per JLan: special Haftorah, since it's Shabbat Shekalim. The Haftorah that is read this year with Mishpatim is instead 2 Kings 11:17-12:17 for Sepharadim, and 12:1-12:17 for Ashkenazim. Shabbat Shekalim gets Exodus 30:11-16. (Hoping I got the correction right!) |
The parashah sets out a series of laws, which some scholars call the Covenant Code, and reports the people’s acceptance of the covenant with God.(Wikipedia)
Sat. Feb. 21 Terumah ► Exodus 25,1-27,19 1 Kings 5,26-6,13
[Instructions for building the Tabernacle] ...It’s hard to read Parshat Terumah and not think of the economic catastrophe of recent years...brought about largely [by] mortgage practices that [encouraged people] to buy houses well beyond their means. And here...are the [nomadic] Israelites... [squandering] on erecting a lavish mansion—the Mishkan... But [this is] a valuable lesson: for a collection of ancient tribespeople...accustomed to life on the move, insisting on one particular, fixed structure as holy sends a powerful message: housing—whether Divine or human—should never be taken lightly. Home is imbued with holiness. A home is a basic human right. (Dvar Tzedek)
Sat. Feb. 28 Tetzaveh
GoldnI tentatively scheduled Exodus 27:20-30:10 Ezekiel 43,10-2
When [this] parsha] coincides with Shabbat Zachor (the special Sabbath [right before] Purim) as it does in ...2015... the haftarah is: for Ashkenazim 1 Samuel 15:2–34; for Sephardim 1 Samuel 15:1–34.
Correction per JLan: Zachor (Feb 28th) gets a special additional Torah reading of Deuteronomy 25:17-19 (Hoping I got the correction right!) |
