The big news is that my grandson is now three. His birthday was Friday.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
I got him an 18-sheet cartoon coloring pages set to go with the crayons I gave him for Christmas. It isn't terribly hard to think of something to get a little boy that age, but I did almost forget to do it. One of the hazards of his birthday being so soon after Christmas.
And the cake was frosted in middling dark blue. It guaranteed the pictures looked peculiar. But he got the lots of candles he wanted. One of them was the number 3 and about a dozen others were scattered around in clumps of three.
For everything else, I was the only one working at the lab for most of last week. My boss spent a couple days working from home and one of the people in the lab was in Los Angeles for some reason (we do have research partners there) and the other isn't home from her brother's wedding yet.
I have been having some small problems with edema. Adding some cider vinegar to one of the glasses of water I drink each day seems to be helping resolve that problem as well as a few others. I have been putting back together the string of habits that was doing me rather well last year and I got lazy about - but that's basically the only one I've really got going so far and this weekend has been the first I've had the energy to get any chores done since before Christmas. Clean laundry is wonderful!
For the rest, things continue well for me. I did find out that a radiation tech I've known since I started my job (17 and a half years) lost his wife last year. I was sorry to hear it - I met her a couple of times and she was a very nice lady.
My oldest-and-dearest has been having issues again, but at least he is now living somewhere that the friend he lists as next of kin has an easier time dealing with things for him.
I got a gift certificate for an assortment of restaurants as a Christmas present, and I'm taking the offspring out for lunch today to Henry's 12th Street Tavern (it's where the brewery used to be just east of Powell's.
