At this Arlington health clinic’s lottery, medical care is the prize http://wapo.st/...
The phone call came late morning; my son was told there were problems with the chest
X-Rays and he must get a CT scan. The hospital told him they had to wait for permission
To give him one because of his insurance plan. My son is in too much pain and even the
hospital folks seem worried.
The afternoon was spent by me making sure my son will get the CT scan in the morning.
It took all the selling I know how to do.
The point of this story is not to say what a great salesman I am. It's a wake-up call, little has changed for my son since he had no insurance. The government pays the bills but
Still my son waits for care because he is poor. I found an article about insurance for the
poor across the country from Washington state where I live.
The poor in this country are getting medical care in this country. They are not receiving
Care on a timely fashion. It should not be this difficult to seek medical care if the doctor
feels there is a medical situation that needs immediate attention.
If you're of limited income and have a serious medical problem be assertive. Tell the medical folks you want to talk "to the person who has the authority to say yes "to what
you're asking. Be nice and give security no reason to throw you out. Don't leave until
you get an answer.
I receive great care from the Veterans hospital. Once, an EKG showed a problem with
my heart. I was in the hospital in two hours. My problem was solved the next day.
We once were called the greatest nation on Earth. I must disagree. A great nation gives
the same medical care to all. Don't say Congress and our President can't find away to
make medical rules the same for all. Why can't our nation buy all drugs for medical care?
Why can't most paperwork in the medical field be lessened? Why are heads of medical
centers receiving huge salaries while my son must wait for some 3rd party to decide
how much medical trouble my son is in?
The ACA is a small step for medical care that other civilized nations seem to have no problem dealing with.
-We have a country that wants to
believe it is the best in everything,
but until all of us embrace the idea
that healthcare should be a right,
not a privilege, our system cannot
be glibly described as quote, "the
best in the world."
