A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Are you stark raving weird?
I am. I have to filter close to 90% of my thoughts (maybe more) and stop them from reaching my tongue. Fortunately I am married to smileycreek who is almost as weird as me (not really, I'm just plain nuts). She actually finds most of the absurdity that my brain makes up to be funny. That's good because I just let loose with my thoughts when I'm with her (let 'er rip baby). Whew!
On our first date we spent hours laughing our heads off. I'm not kidding in the least. We were married 6 months later. Ever been married to someone and realize you couldn't be married to anyone else? I am...and yes, I do.
Random stuff that my twisted mind comes up with:
1) Whenever talking to someone new to you, and it's just gonna be for that one time, finish every sentence you say with, "according to the prophecy."
2) I wrote a country song once...in my head. The first line goes like this, "Well, she won't get under me 'till I get over you." I have many other verses to that song, but I'll just leave it at that.
3) Go to the zoo and have a grand time. As you are leaving and get to the parking lot, look for a large group of people coming to the zoo. The best groups are a mix of adults and children. Then start running towards them waving your arms in the air and yell, "the lions are loose!" Look deeply into the eyes of one of the adults as you run past with the expression of fear in your eyes.
4) When someone asks you to do something ask them "do you want fries with that?"
5) Call up a friend who either has their own business or is a lawyer. Disguise your voice and say all this before they say a word. "Hi, this is Sam Schmidt of the Internal Revenue Service. We've been looking over your tax returns for the past 4 years and see some serious discrepancies. You'll need to come into our office so we can interrogate you to help us understand why. I have three appointment times for you to choose from. The first is this Friday at 1 PM, the second is next Tuesday at 10:30 AM and the third is next Wednesday at 3 PM. These are your only choices, which one is it?"
(I did this to a lawyer friend of mine once and heard nothing but dead silence on the other end of the line for 20 seconds. Priceless!)
5) When you're at the movies watching the trailers before the main attraction (why is it the main attraction? It's the only attraction) and there are those few seconds of silence right after one of them, say loudly "NOPE!" Half of the time you'll get some serious laughs.
6) I sing Pink Floyd songs in the voice of Porky Pig, for instance (hear Porky's voice when you read this): "Hey-yy-yy Teachoh leave doze kids awone"
I've tons of 'em, don't you? Fess up and spill.

The Koscadians welcomed Ojibwa and navajo to Portlandia. Ojibwa blessed some quilts for the Community Quilt Project and a delicious pot luck was enjoyed. All edifying for the holidays.

by Thinking Fella ♥ for Four Corners Kossacks
There are meet-ups and then, there are EPIC meet-ups. The current designate always upstages the previous one. And that is precisely what Thinking Fella has done with this event. We were all green with envy when he announced it with just a few short weeks notice. He had a fantastic turnout anyway. Try to top this event. With 58 scenic photos of gorgeous Colorado and wonderful Kossacks, Thinking Fella showed us who's boss when it comes to meet-ups. He holds the trophy now. Who wants to take it away from him? Throw your gauntlet down at any time.
It's important to note that this terrific diary inspired 8 more people to join the Four Corners Kossacks. Again, Thinking Fella knows what he's doing. High five, buddy!
Here's one photo:
