A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What's your favorite dilapitated place?
No, you can't say your own home. Otherwise I'd be posting photos of my own abode.
Point Molate
My favorite dilapitated place, the harbor at the hidden end of
Point Molate, is literally sinking right into the water. I rediscovered it a few months back with one friend and have now introduced it to several other friends. It ia a mostly forgotten relic that is now inhabited by a few dwellers. Largely abandoned and neglected, the remaining denizens contribute to its charming and desolate ambiance. It has a stunning beauty borne of decay, care and natural setting. In person, it is almost reminescent of what a movie set of a delipated harbor would look like according to a director who had never been to one.
Restroom facilities anyone?
The view from the cliffs above make it seem as ephemeral as an artificial bubble. Entering it dispels that illusion and suddenly you feel you are in a natural landscape. That happens despite the small frozen-time junkyard off to one side.
"The village is home to a few dozen individuals living in hundreds of boats and a few dozen stilt houses." Let the meaning of the math within that sentence sink in.
To get to it you first have to drive through a closed Navy base and then traverse a long winding dirt rode that skirts the hills over San Pablo Bay. It is worth the trip and then some.
Do you have a favorite dilapited zone or place? Some place where decay and beauty mix and mesh quite well?

by John Crapper ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kos
Seattle & Puget Sound Kos welcomed Joan McCarter, Meteor Blades, Monique Teal and navajo to their meet-up on January 17th. Almost 40 people attended. All had a great time mingling, listening to the DKos speakers and then finishing up with a Q&A session. Good food, great location and most of all great Kossacks.
