Or, as I've often heard it said, SSDD.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Not that I have grounds for complaint personally.
A couple of days ago, I got another email from my buddy downbuilding. Apparently, due to what he himself called stubborn pride, he threw his back out on his first day at the mortuary job and so resigned therefrom. He's one of the few men I know that I would never have considered machismo as something that would affect his job performance. Ah well.
Aside from his other health issues, my oldest-and-dearest has just been diagnosed with glaucoma. I got an email from the friend who is listed as his official next-of-kin these days and she told me all about it. The good news is that his disability has been approved, so the money issue isn't as tight as it was. Her firstborn is getting married in about three weeks, which will interfere with her being able to get him to the appointment to deal with the glaucoma. Fortunately, several other friends of his are both able and willing to help out with getting him to appointments. And the disability approval will make it easier to get medical transport. She says he's not being nice to the staff, though - or to her. There are times I'd go down to L.A. just to smack him, I swear.
The offspring went to the Portland ComiCon this weekend. I'm told they got a lot of stuff.
And I promised cookies for the lab this coming week, so I had better get busy.
I've been reading TARDIS Eruditorium. The books, not the blog, although the blog is fun in small doses. I've worked my way a little past halfway into the fourth volume, which covers the first three or so of the Tom Baker years. Phrasing it that way probably makes it sound like less fun that it actually is, but the essays are fairly complex and require thinking about. I've got the first three volumes (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee) already read, the fifth book waiting its turn, and will buy the others as they come out.
Have I mentioned I have nearly 600 books for my Kindle (though I will admit I don't have them all loaded onto the device)?
I find it annoying that hoopla only allows me to check out 8 items per month. It only takes me a couple of days to get through even an audiobook, and I do wish the limit was 8 at a time.
