http://shar.es/... via @Washington health insurance:
My young son is a Type 1 Diabetic. Recently due to a very low blood sugar, he had a
seizure. He managed to break his rib and part of a lung collapsed. The doctor gave him
Pain medication because his injury can be painful. He got his first prescription filled
With no problem. This week the doctor gave him another prescription for pain. She
said the healing will take some time,
This time the pharmacy said he would have to wait until February 6th. My son said
"Can I get a few pills? I hurt." The answer was no unless he paid $200 for the
prescription.
In Washington State, you"re allowed three test strips a day, no more. His doctor
Want's him to test himself more often. My sons's blood sugar is not stable and
after a few more months, something major might have to be done to save his life.
I have talked about this recently, but my son's experience shows what a classic
"Double Standard" looks like. The rich don't have to be in pain: the poor do.
I'm sure the answer I will be given is that money is an issue. So a faceless person
in my state looks at a budget to make decisions, not my son's doctor.
Health care should be a "right" for every person, not a privilege. This reminds me
Of a little 5-year-old boy in Oregon who needed a transplant to live. No guarantees
Could be given but without the transplant he would die. No transplant was granted
And a little boy died because his mother was poor. My mother worked in the state
Health department. She calmly explained the budget the state
Had no money for a transplant.I asked why couldn't money come from some other
department? I said "the person who denied this should be made to call the little
Boys mom and explain why her son must die. We were in public, and my mom said,
For me to calm down. I admit to speaking quite loud.
What's clear to me is the poor are treated like second-class citizens. Congress
and my state workers have better insurance.
We need Single-pay insurance if taxes go up:they go up. Where has decency
and morality gone? why is it okay to let people suffer? When does our Country
become civilized ?when do we join other Countries and treat all citizens the same?
My son got his medicine : I paid for it. I have too many credit cards. What other
choice did I have?
