The con artist Ken and his Answers in Genesis (AiG) group is suing the state of Kentucky. It appears that AiG has - should I say - a divine right to state funding for its proposed Noah's Ark theme park. For Beshear and the state government to renege on funding for AiG's pet project is nothing but a blatant act of discrimination, or so AiG is now arguing.
Answers in Genesis said in a statement that the decision "by Kentucky officials, including Gov. Steve Beshear, violates federal and state law" and amounted to discrimination. A lawyer for the group said it plans to file the suit in U.S. District Court on Thursday.
It gets better.
"Our organization spent many months attempting to reason with state officials so that this lawsuit would not be necessary," Answers in Genesis President Ken Ham said in a release. "However, the state was so insistent on treating our religious entity as a second-class citizen that we were simply left with no alternative but to proceed to court. This is the latest example of increasing government hostility towards religion in America, and it's certainly among the most blatant."
Poor, poor pitiful me.
In any rational universe, Beshear should NEVER have approved this white elephant. Actually, calling the Noah's Ark theme park project a white elephant is an insult to elephants. This was a cynical deal by Beshear to get conservative voters for his reelection bid.
Anyone who is not pandering to fundamentalist christians knows that state funding for the Noah's Ark theme park was, or should be, unconstitutional. I say "should be" unconstitutional because I am no legal expert, but given how the judiciary is now controlled by right wing extremists, this legal suit may get some where.
I hope this lawsuit by AiG get hurled out of the courts, but...
