I must confess, I'm not into Valentine's Day. That might be an understatement. I hate Valentine's Day. I hated it when I was single, and I hate it now that I'm not. If anything, to me, it's an excuse to have a nice dinner. But when it comes to expressing love, if I'm not doing that the 364 other days of the year, that's a problem that won't be solved with chocolates, flowers, cards, or Cupid himself.
I feel fortunate to have a boyfriend who feels the exact same way about Valentine's Day as I do. When deciding what weekend we wanted to see each other this month, we decided Lunar New Year (next week) is much more important to us than Valentine's Day. He asked me last night, even though he knew the answer, "Um, so, you don't want chocolate or anything for Valentine's Day do you?" Then we laughed.
Yet, even on this day that we loathe, we do go through some of the motions. If we were together today, we'd almost certainly be using the day as an excuse to eat a nice, romantic dinner. And we do give each other cheesy cards. I sent him a Hoops and Yoyo e-card, because you can't go wrong with them. And he sent me these, because nobody says "Happy Valentine's Day" quite like the Notorious R.B.G.
How are you celebrating...or not celebrating...or desecrating Valentine's Day?

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
