Jason Kander, Missouri's Secretary of State made it official this morning, taking to Twitter and Facebook to announce that he's running for US Senate opposing Roy Blunt (R)
Jason Kander was often seen as the defacto challenger should Claire McCaskill decide not to run for the governor's mansion. In the change of direction, this opened up a path for Kander to make his run to replace Roy Blunt.
Jason Kander became the youngest Secretary of State in the nation, and his work on reforms often gains him attention. More importantly, Jason Kander has stood on the side of medicaid expansion as well as his efforts to work on expanding voting rights.
Last spring, Jason Kander spoke to Kansas Young Democrats to encourage them to look at why medicaid expansion mattered.
Kander is seen as very young to run for this office - but his backstory, as a war hero who heard the call of his party resonates with a large group of people and he poses a real threat to an embattled Blunt in a presidential year.
