It's 1:30 am in Alaska and I should really sleep but I can't get this off my mind...
I have been experiencing the most intense schadenfreude the past several days watching the slug-fest with b O'Re and the continuing revelations of even more blatant lies. The one voice I have been yearning to hear is Jon Stewart, who deferred on even a mention of Bill on Monday's broadcast. Tuesday night came and I was rewarded in spades...
It hasn't been posted yet on the The Daily Show website but it's a must see
I write this not for what Jon had to say about Bill-ghazi (He was, in fact, almost apologetic in tone) but how he tied the evening together, moving on quickly to all the things we should REALLY be pissed about, and I'm paraphrasing here, "Why are we getting so upset about lies told while reporting on a war, when so many lies were told that got us INTO so many, many wars!"
Comic genius with a gentle heart that refused to play the "let's bully the bully" game: Bill could learn a thing or two.
My schadenfreude became righteous and I basked in it's glory as Jon did a send-up of Biden, "The Audacity of Grope."
After the break, with no direct linkage to Bill-gate or Bri-ghazi or even a mention of their names or the situations they are in for the rest of the show, he introduced his guest for the evening, Award-winning photojournalist, Lynsey Addario, author of the new book It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War
Confident, bright-eyed and clear of purpose, she strode confidently to the desk and proceeded to talk about her 15 years as a [real] war photojournalist. Immediately, story after story of her bravery, her sacrifices, her 2 kidnappings, one in Syria for over a week, her myriad skills, her knowledge of the cultures and conflicts, her humility, her HONESTY (at one point, she explained a compelling picture from Afghanistan of people gathering to listen to music in public, which had been illegal up to that point, stating sheepishly that the western woman with a camera probably had as much to do with the crowd as the music...)
I was awed and humbled. Whether by design or by a happenstance of scheduling, there couldn't have been a more stark contrast between Faux Bill and Lyin' Brian and this principled, tested, devoted, skilled JOURNALIST. Picture after picture, story after story, this true war reporter put the likes of Billy O'Really to utter and complete shame with nary an unkind word and a joy and fulfillment of purpose that is breathtaking.
I was chastised and cast off my hole-y-er-than-Bill regalia...
Well, it's 2:30am in Alaska and I should really sleep but I just want to give y'all a heads up: Don't miss this one!
And sorry for the jumble: You get the idea...
