I recently came across akadjian's diary about marketing resources for self-publishers. Akadjian recommends a Guy Kawasaki book, and also gives my favorite quote of that diary, "What Guy Kawasaki only hints at is that Guy Kawasaki can afford to hire people to help him!"
There's some discussion in that diary, and in skywriter's, about various services that Indie publishers use. I've been looking into them ... and also surfing the freelancer-for-hire sites, looking for freelancers who do book design and marketing. My pockets aren't as deep as Guy Kawasaki's, but I think I can afford a little help.
So I thought that instead of surfing elance, I should ask on Daily Kos if anyone here is looking for a fairly modest job. Keep the money in the family, sort of.
I'm going to be hiring two (I think) freelancers.
1) One who does page layout and design, and is familiar with all the various self-publishing file formats. The book is short (more of a novella than a novel), but the layout is a bear. Email conversations, texts, letters, etc.
2) One who can handle online marketing. Approximately a zillion people say they're geniuses at social media marketing and all that. But I have no idea how to choose among them, which is why I figured I should ask here.
I'm still a few months away from actually writing checks, but if either of these sounds like something you might do, drop me a kosmail or comment?
Be neat if the next version of dailykos had a craigslist-like koslist for this sort of thing ...
