Three weeks. That's how long House Republicans want to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Scott Wong
explains:
The measure is meant to buy time for Republicans to figure out how to fight President Obama’s immigration policies, GOP leaders told members on Thursday.
The three-week measure would stave off a shutdown at the agency slated for 12:01 a.m. Saturday, but it’s only a temporary fix. Republicans say it would give them a chance to pursue a longer-term solution and iron out differences between House and Senate funding bills.
Three weeks. Cuz, ya know, a lot can change. Republicans might suddenly start functioning as a cohesive unit; they might develop a passion for governing; pigs might fly.
There's only two problems with this ironclad plan.
First, Boehner might not even have the votes in his own caucus.
Second, Democrats aren't having it. Here's a statement from a Democratic leadership aide, per Huffington Post's Sam Stein:
The House Democratic leadership is whipping against this bill. If House Republicans want to end up with another crisis that risks our national security in a matter of days they can do it with 218 votes of their own.
