This evening I received a note from my Congressional misrepresentative, Scott Garrett (R, NJ5th), headed "The Dire State of Nuclear Negotiations with Iran," but claiming insight only from PM Netanyahu's improper speech today and, oh yes, "as a member of the Conference Committee that considered the Iran Sanctions Act" (1996?). Apparently, all he feels necessary to know was conveyed by today's invited grandstander, whom Garrett closed by thanking for "sharing his unique insight on this growing threat to the safety and security of the United States and its allies."
I'm afraid that old left knee jerked, and I wrote back,
Well, of course Netanyahu is in a unique position to comment on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as the head of the only government in the region that already has nukes. I don’t trust him either.
But why am I not hearing this acknowledged in the whole discussion? Why would the Israeli PM be so worried about a near neighbor having nukes if he didn't know he was able to answer directly. Um, sirs?
