My hat has always been off to people who are willing to risk their lives for a principle. Let's take those who have worked in the civil rights movement, especially during the 50s and 60s. It is why I was delighted to read that one of those who marched in Selma in 1965, Diane Nash, was having none of the bullshit of forgetting the immoral practices of George W. Bush.
Ms. Nash decided to protest Bush's presence at the commemoration of the Selma movement by simply not going herself. And she let the Washington Post know why she boycotted the re-enactment of the Selma to Montgomery march.
“I refused to march because George Bush marched,” Nash told Roland Martin of News One Now. “I think the Selma movement was about non-violence and peace and democracy. And George Bush stands for just the opposite: For violence and war and stolen elections, and his administration … had people tortured.”
“So I thought that this was not an appropriate event for him,” she added.
Frankly, she is right. I have to admit that I was surprised that dickhead Bush was allowed to march with the others. Besides all the killings and violence he is responsible for, Bush appointed Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court. And didn't those two reprobates vote to gut the Voting Rights Act? I seem to recall that.
Oh Merlin. We should all forgive and forget. Why spoil this special moment?
No.
First, Bush is too arrogant to ask for forgiveness for his deeds, so I'm not about to forgive someone who hasn't even bothered to ask for forgiveness. And given his pathological need to lie, I wouldn't believe Bush if he asked for forgiveness. Finally, his failed policies continue to take innocent lives in the Middle East, so Bush's criminal past is our present.
So God Bless Diane Nash for her actions and statements!
