Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Coffee Hour at Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can discuss what’s happening in our lives, what we’ve been working on, and our opinions on current events. Today I thought it might be interesting to talk about movies that we have seen—or would like to see—more than once.
First, I should disclose that I may view movies slightly differently than many people. When I was young and foolish I spent a decade as an Associate Professor of Television Production at a large university and during this time I also produced and directed television programs. As a result of this I tend to be more aware of production techniques when watching movies.
Let me start with a movie that I have only seen once, but would like to see again: Selma. Not only was this a fascinating story, but it was well produced. It was visually interesting and emotional—I found tears in my eyes at several points in the film.
Similar to Selma, was the movie Gandhi, which I have seen more than once. Well produced and well acted, this movie helped me better understand an important period of world history.
Another movie which I have seen more than once—like three times in the theater and a couple of times on video or TV—is Amadeus. I found it to be a fun film.
Somewhat related to Amadeus, but on the lighter side is Animal House. Drinking my way through college, I lived parts of this movie.
Do you have any twice-seen movies? This is an open thread where you can talk about what’s going on in your life, what you’ve been thinking about, and what’s for dinner.
