It is a well documented (if you're a fan of Keith Olbermann, that is) fact that Glenn Beck takes most of his cues from the voices in his head. But when the voices in your head start arguing with the voices in someone else's head, then it's time to give serious consideration to shock therapy.
From Huffington Post.
"I just don’t think I can stand with the [NRA] organization. And I love this organization. I think they do an awful lot of good and I think they are really good people. And I’ve helped raise millions of dollars for them. But Grover Norquist is a very, very bad and dangerous man in my opinion."
Wait...what the...
Grover Norquist?
But I though Grover was one of them.
So what's Beck's beef with Mr. Norquist.
Well, it seems that Grover Norquist, the head cray-cray for Americans for Tax Reform, is also an NRA board member. Allegedly he is also linked to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. At least that's the conspiracy being spread by Frank Gaffney, the founding cray-cray for the Center for Security Policy.
Muslim Brotherhood? Wait...isn't that Obama's group?
Anyhow, Glenn had Mr. Gaffney on his radio show to talk about Mr. Norquist's re-election campaign and how Norquist may be trying to use the NRA to advance the Brotherhood agenda. One should keep in mind that this conspiracy has been debunked and dismissed by both liberals and conservatives alike, and Mr. Gaffney and his conspiracies have proven too crazy for even CPAC to touch.
In 2011, Gaffney was banned from speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference because he had "become personally and tiresomely obsessed with his weird belief that anyone who doesn't agree with him" is either blind to the dangers America faces or "dupes of the nation's enemies."
Still, having never met a conspiracy theory that he didn't want to take to bed with him, Glenn Beck has pretty much latched on to this idea of Grover Norquist being a mole for the Muslim Brotherhood. So much so that he's willing to give up membership in the NRA because of it.
Now on top of everything else, I just caught an update today in Media Matters about a claim by Beck that NRA Exec. VP and CEO Wayne LaPierre told him they are opening up an investigation into Mr. Norquist.
So we have the cray-cray of Glenn Beck and Frank Gaffney in one corner, and the cray-cray of Grover Norquist and the NRA in the other.
Get the popcorn ready folks.
