Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Ted Cruz explains the Senate
accomplishments that qualify him for the presidency, and the word "stopping" comes up an awful lot:
“What I’ve tried to do is lead on the great challenges of the day,” Cruz said, “whether it’s stopping Obamacare or stopping the out-of-control debt, or stopping executive amnesty or defending our constitutional rights or standing with Israel, or stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons.”
He tries to lead, but is widely hated by his colleagues. He tries to lead on stopping Obamacare and "executive amnesty," which have not been stopped. He tries to lead on stopping the out-of-control debt, to which
Republican presidents have been the leading contributors, and which President Obama's budget would
stabilize. And so on.
Ted Cruz is a leader in shutting down the government to make a symbolic point without actually stopping Obamacare, but that's about it. It's gained him some devoted fans, but is "I shut down the government for no real reason" a message to win the presidency with?
