Come oh come ye tea-thirsty restless ones -- the kettle boils, bubbles and sings, musically. ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Good evening, Kibitzers, and welcome to Friday night! Our friend BeninSC was extremely kind to trade nights with me this week. It turns out that a) I did not have the faintest idea how to prepare the tax return of a retired person with a tax situation like that of my elderly father; b) the task does not become easier when the taxee is bent on "helping" by gathering necessary paperwork and putting it in a very, very safe place.
Doing even my own taxes makes me reflexively anxious, so yes, I did put all of them off until far too late while I uncurled myself from the fetal position. And in the end, I filed an extension for my dad (and took a wild guess how much more tax he needed to pay the US and NJ) because I still cannot imagine where he put all those missing statements. It breaks my heart that the most competent guy I have ever met now not only needs me to do his taxes, but is actively an unintentional impediment. However, that's how life goes, we are most certainly still among the most-blessed people ever to have walked the earth, and this is a very first-world problem. We'll get replacement paperwork. We have until October.
It's Friday and taxes have been dealt with! A little tax-day fun below the crumpled orange receipt.
I was rummaging around an old folder at work and found this oldie-but goodie from the start of the G.W. Bush administration. Lightbox: click image to see larger.
Then, there's this:
And of course, music. Here are George Harrison and Eric Clapton live in Japan:

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
