First let me say that I am a huge fan of professional golf and from early on Thursday morning until late in the evening of Sunday my TV pretty much lives on the Golf Channel. For the second year in a row the Golf Channel has televised extensive coverage of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition from the Augusta National Golf Course home of The Masters. DC&P is a wonderful event where youngsters from 7 to 16 can show off their skills.
The greatest thing about DC&P is the vast cultural and ethnic diversity of the competitors. On the beautiful green lawns of this golf club steeped in tradition and a heretofore bastion of the Conservative, Jim Crow, segregationist, south DC&P looks like America.
To see the former Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, a member of the Golf Club meeting with the youngsters and congratulating them for their achievements is heartening.
While this is a positive step forward and an honorable trend for America there is another trend that is not positive happening in America in partnership with the PGA of America and the racist, bigoted, buffoon Donald Trump.
Donald Trump who frequently insults and denigrates the President of the United States personally and the Office of the President as well. Donald Trump who frequently goes on Twitter rages and denigrates African American and Hispanic citizens of our country.
Donald Trump's hyperbolic rhetoric that brings extreme discredit on America in the eyes of the world and is embarrassing to America. That this man should be an ambassador for the sport of golf as well as the owner of several championship venues is scandalous.
If you play professional golf at some point you are going to have to play on a Trump golf course. If you play during the week of March 3 you can either play at Trumps Doral course for the WGC-Cadillac-Championship or you can play the Puerto Rico Open on Trumps course in Puerto Rico in partnership with the PGA tour of America.
If that is not enough in May of last year the PGA gave a Trump venue the PGA Championship the years final Major. In light of what happened to Marge Shott owner of the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball and Donald Sterling of the NBA Los Angeles Clippers it is clear that Major league sports would not tolerate an owner such as Trump. Why then should the PGA.
