Sam Alito asked today a bad question regarding gay marriage. If gays could marry, why not siblings? Or two women and two men? The former question was flawed in my view, because siblings are likely to provide children mental and physical disabilities.
But what about cousins? The risk for these hereditary problems is so low that cousin marriage is legal in not only states considered backward (Alabama) but also in states we considered civilized (New York).
I think a SCOTUS challenge to the prohibition of marriages in 25 states between cousins would have a pretty good chance. Do you agree? Why or why not?
