Is it legal for the contest to find the most offensive cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohamed? Yes.
Is it in good taste and does it show a respect for Muslims to exercise their right to worship as they choose? No it does not.
but that is not my observation.or as I used to hear on the radio when I was a kid from Paul Harvey..
"and now, the rest of the story."
As I heard the leader of the contest on CNN harp on her right to say anything she wants, while talking over the questions of the announcer who were asking not about the legality, but weather she should do it or is it good judgement to do it (Was the organizer just not listening to the story or was she unable to veer off her script about the legality of doing it?) I had another question pop into my mind.
Keep in mind that while I was hearing the question of legality being answered to a question of morality, I had a question concerning the RESULTS of the contest.
I have heard CNN etc talk about how it was legal but not really good judgement, here I am wondering
Who won the contest?
it struck me that here we have a group of people exercising their right to free speech although they ignored the feelings of the people of the Islamic faith, they seem to pay attention to the consequences that might befall those that were there to create the offensive cartoon "speech".
I believe that they ALSO have the right to say who they are? So why don't the people that create the cartoons to get the $10,000 use their freedom of speech guaranteed by the U. S. Constitution to publish their cartoons as well as the name of the people that submitted entries and especially the winner?
That is my problem with both the contestants, the organizers and the media coverage.
Did their history books read this patriotic quote:
"Give me liberty or give me death!"

Patrick Henry was a patriot willing to stand by his beliefs. What are the ones that can do the talk but they can't do the walk.

ps, I also feel the same about people and the more recent citizens of the US, the corporations, who will spend millions to take away some people's rights as they buy politicians with obscene amounts under the cloak of secrecy.
