I have, in my life, lived in seven different states. I have lived equal thirds of my life in the Northeast, Midwest, and South/Southwest. As such, I have picked up many accents, and regional colloquialisms.
To this day, I have what I call an American accent, as I have different words I say with different accents, sometimes it comes out Midwestern, sometimes Southern, sometimes Northeastern...and "coffee" comes out with a Boston accent.
I thought I'd share some of my favorite regional colloquialisms I have picked up...and where I picked them up...hoping others will respond with other regional colloquialisms...hopefully ones I haven't heard before.
I don't really have any from Illinois/Midwest, really.
South (Texas) - I wouldn't touch that with a ten-meter cattle prod!
South (Texas) - I'm fixin' to ___.
Northeast (NY) - SO????
Northeast (General) - It's colder than a well digger's belt buckle!
South (NC) - Don't piss on my back and tell me it's raining!
South (NC) - Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit!
South (NC) My cow died yesterday, so I don't need your bull today!
South (KY) - She's so ugly she gotta sneak up on a glass of water to drink it!
South (KY) - 32 of him would make a full set of teeth!
South (KY) - The nickname The Bluegrass State has nothin' to do with music or fescue!
Anyway...those are some of mine.
I thought maybe we could just have a little fun with this one...too much serious without an oxccasional laugh will drive ya crazy.
And if a redneck tells you "You better run" - you'd do well to take that advice!
