Perry, my former governor, is an "accident" not waiting to happen.
While reading my copy of the Austin American Statesman this morning I was confronted yet again by my former governor in what cannot be described as another oops moment.
In other pieces on dailykos people have pointed out that the glasses didn't work and other funny comments and while I agree and appreciate these comments, this really isn't a funny matter. This man is running to be the nominee of a major political party and he is dangerous. Nine people are dead and this political hack is trying to use this moment to talk about President Obama, gun safety (ie assault on the 2nd ammendment ), veterans health care and how many deaths are necessary before we call an act terrorism. All of this is after he uses the term "accident". Since the article is behind a pay wall I want to give you a little flavor of his thinking.
First, I think it is important to note that "Perry spokesman Travis Considine later said that, 'From the context of his comments, it is clear Gov. Perry meant `incident.’” I fall into the category of people who believe that is not true.
I love the comment from the SMU professor regarding his thought process
“ 'He is being very careful but his thought process is skittery, like butter in a frying pan,' said Southern Methodist University political scientist Cal Jillson of the interview." The only disagreement I have with this statement is that it assumes something not in evidence, that he had a thought process at all.
IMHO the problem with the people that want the battle flag of the Confederacy to still fly in SC is that they are pure racists that wrap their bigotry in a romantic view of the history of the Civil War. In fact their history forgets and ignores the real history. Many are just not thinking at all. Some believe it a personal attack on their own heritage. That heritage though is one of terror, rape, murder and insurrection.
Please remember that former governor Perry once had a hunting camp that was named "N***head" painted on a rock at the entrance! That was no "accident" even if the word was there when he purchased the land because it remained there for years.
VETERANS HEALTH CARE?
He talks about the drugs veterans were prescribed and suicide when there is no indication Roof was a veteran and any drugs he was using were for recreational purposes. Perry is of course trying to shift the blame away from the actor because it can't be race related.
TERRORISM?
"Asked if the attack by Dylann Roof at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church ought to be considered an act of terror, Perry said, 'there were more people than that killed in Paris'— a reference to the assault on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in January which left a dozen people dead — but then didn’t follow that thought to a conclusion."
So pay attention now, 9 dead isn't an act of terror but 12 is? Even in Texas, Aggie math isn't usually that bad.
"Jennifer Mercieca, an associate professor of communication at Texas A&M, said there was nothing in Perry’s delivery or context that indicated he had chosen the wrong word when he said, “accident.”
“ 'I don’t think it was an accident he said accident,' Mercieca said. 'He’s running for president as the West Texas cowboy and what he said is, I think, in character and on message.' ”
Congressman Clyburn spoke eloquently regarding the sin of silence when confronted with these racist views. Perry has never had the guts to stand up and be counted against racist views because he embraces those views. We need only look to the name of his hunting camp. Even if we want to believe he has suddenly evolved we are confronted with his view this act was an "accident ". Even if we believe his spokesman that he meant "incident", then he still believes it isn't a terroristic act because enough people weren't killed? No one can believe that in light of his belief the failed attack in Texas at the Muslim bashing meeting was terrorism. No, the truth is that his thought process is so bad that it really isn't that it is terrorism because 9 Black lives don't matter. His bigotry is so ingrained that it is just automatically activated.
The "context" Perry’s spokesman wanted us to look at doesn't exist except to say he is a shallow apologist for a society of hate.
Frankly, IMHO I wouldn't be surprised if it helped him in SC, oops.
