No that isn't me - I didn't want to harass him for a photo. That's a photo that he took with the volunteers of the event.
Look who I met today! :)
It was a great little gathering and fundraiser today in Van Nuys at the home of Mimi Kennedy and Larry Dilg.
Bernie was wonderful of course. He answered tons of questions and I was able to shake his hand. He had wonderful comments and answers to questions about foreign policy and the problem of racism and the rate of imprisonment. Nothing really too new for us that follow what he says... but still great stuff nonetheless. I'm sure there will be a video of it soon and I'll post if I find it. I did take some horrible smart phone photos though.
But there was one great quote that I remember:
"This campaign is catching fire because we are telling the truth."
Darn right. I think this is the first time I've actually believed everything that a politician says. He seems to be actually working for the people that elected him and this country. (Well most other politicians are working for those that elected them too - but it was the billionaires and multi-national corporations that funded and elected them)
Another thing that he talked about a lot is that if he does win he'll need the help of everyone to get his programs passed.
He said imagine saying to John Boehner, "John, did you see those 5 million e-mails asking you to pass this bill. John, look out your window. Do you do see the million young men and women out there demanding the passage of the free college bill?"
But he also said, or so implied, that if we are able to build a progressive movement to get Bernie through the primaries and into the White House... there's a really good chance that congress will look a little bit different than what it is now.
Another great thing about the event was Mimi Kennedy's husband Larry Dilg singing "Rocking in the Free World". I didn't catch all the song... but he "Bernie-fied" the lyrics.
I took a crappy smart phone video of it and here it is:
