Getting Ready for Glacier
We are scrambling to get our place ready for the week-long meet-up at Glacier. Every plant for the summer is now planted and much watering is taking place now and will continue tomorrow. One of the coolest things is that we fly directly out of our small airport in Santa Rosa which is 100% calmer than the frenetic madhouse of the San Francisco airport. My son will be taking care of the place and most of all taking care of Louie the cat.
Well it's now officially summer and also Father's Day. My son gave me a most welcome gift. I had a huge pile of eucalyptus to be split. The rounds were quartered but still so heavy I could only roll them to the splitter. And being quartered they weren't exactly round. So yesterday we set the splitter to vertical and together split all those quarters into pieces I could manage. He is so strong he could carry them to the splitter.
This afternoon I set the splitter to horizontal and split one of the two piles into burning size. Not particularly good for my ailing wrists but I got it done. This half took one hour of hard work, then I came in because KTK. I hope to finish tomorrow before we leave.
Being away in the summer is always tricky because of ripening produce. I ate one ripe plum and one ripe peach so far and the majority will ripen while we're gone. I'm sure my son will harvest and eat plenty and refrigerate the rest.
One question for folks who have a real camera vs. a phone camera. There are usually millions of possible options and adjustments possible, such that a huge instruction book is included and one can take courses in the details. Or one can make one setting and let the camera computer handle everything. What say you?
This is short so treat it like a semi-open thread. I have subs for KTK and OND next week so I'll be back in July. Enjoy June…..enjoy every day.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
