So I am reading Al-Jazeera tonight and I found this piece about right-wing gun nuts. Al Jazeera reports
"Guns rights advocates struck back at calls for gun control after Wednesday night’s deadly mass shooting at a historic black church in South Carolina, saying President Barack Obama’s plea for stricter gun laws “gets it wrong” and asserting that the pastor of the church, who was killed in the shooting, could have prevented the massacre if not for his anti-gun stance.
“One of the biggest problems at the South Carolina church is that the potential victims were disarmed by law,” Gun Owners of America spokesman Erich Pratt said in a statement emailed to Al Jazeera. “In the Palmetto State, a concealed carry permit holder can carry in places of worship with permission from a church official. Unfortunately, the pastor was an anti-gun activist. As a state senator, the Pastor had voted against concealed carry.”
The pastor, Clementa Pinckney, who became the state's youngest senator in 2001 at the age of 27, voted for reproductive rights and gun control laws, and he spent his last day campaigning with 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in Charleston. "
Why do these people thin that a having gun is the magic solution to everything. It seems that these people want to return back to the days of the Wild West where man defends himself with a six shooter and everybody is armed to the teeth.
Having a bunch of loaded guns encourages vigilantism. I have no problem having a gun in the house and protecting themselves against armed intruders. But what i do oppose is a bunch of people armed to the teeth and walking around with loaded gun at all times.
The right wants to be loaded to the teeth because it is because gun nuts have romanticism towards the Wild West days when every person had a gun for personal protection and walked around with guns.
And why does a person have to carry a gun to church. The church is designed a place where people come to seek a spiritual refuge from a materialistic and selfish culture. It is where people find fellowship and community. And not it is a not a place where I want to bring to gun. Would I like to bring a loaded pistol to my UU church in Orange County, CA. The answer is no. Or what about Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, Saddleback Church, or Christ Cathedral. Did my Christian friends ever bring packed heat into church when they worship God as they understood him. No.
This is an terribly irresponsible and bombastic stating by the NRA to get people to believe in their gun-toting industry. The reality is that the NRA is really the spokesman for the gun industry and acts a lot of like the tobacco industry when making claims about guns. The real job of the NRA is bring profits to owners of publicly traded gun makers and GOP politicians who benefit form their donation. And also deny any chance of the sane gun laws.
Guns are used for hunting, for sport, and for protection of the home against armed intruders. But they are not designed for general populace to carry packed heat where they go.
