Today, we stand here and say loudly and clearly that; "Enough is enough. This great nation and its government belong to all of the people, and not to a handful of billionaires, their Super-PACs and their lobbyists."
Bernie Sanders, May 26, 2015, Burlington, Vermont
Bernie's words really resonated with me that day he announced he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president. I had been an Elizabeth Warren fan the year prior, hoping like hell she would announce her candidacy. But eight months after I put her bumper sticker on the back of my car supporting her candidacy, it was clear she and I were no longer on the same page. And I knew in my heart who my support was going to.
So hear I sit, an enthusiastic supporter of Bernie Sanders, plotting to take down the Democratic establishment, and the billionaires - and some times, it pretty hard to distinguish between the two.
And Bernie Sanders gets it. He has been a fighter for working families his entire life and a strong supporter of the union movement. And he also understands how destructive income inequality has been to this country:
"Today, we live in the wealthiest nation in the history of the world but that reality means very little for most of us because almost all of that wealth is owned and controlled by a tiny handful of individuals," he said. "In America we now have more income and wealth inequality than any other major country on earth, and the gap between the very rich and everyone is wider than at any time since the 1920s. The issue of wealth and income inequality is the great moral issue of our time, it is the great economic issue of our time and it is the great political issue of our time. And we will address it."
So join me in helping elect Bernie Sanders and help grow the movement.
