I have had the luck of living in many places in the US, thus getting exposed to a lot of different regional foods.
I've also, being the Rice Queen that I am, been lucky enough to try many Asian and Pacific Islander foods that I probably would not have had, had I not been exposed to them.
I would go nuts if I had to just rely on a typical Merican meat and taters diet.
When I go out with friends, they are suprised by the foods I eat, which strikes me as odd, because they are not willing to try them.
I thought it might be interesting to write a diary, where people talk about some of their favorite, n0n-traditional foods, at least non-traditional from an Merican perspective, or a midwestern one.
I love eel, jellyfish, moonpies, squid, anything Filipino I've eaten (apart from chocolate meat (Dinuguan)). I miss being able to go to Chinatown in Houston everyday like I used to when I lived there and have dimsum every Saturday or Sunday morning.
Sigh.. now I am making myself hungry.
So, what about you? What sets your mouth to water that your friends look at you oddly for enjoying?
