John Kasich to announce presidential bid July 21
Ohio Gov. John Kasich will jump into the crowded Republican presidential field on July 21 at the student union at his alma mater, The Ohio State University, in Columbus, advisers tell POLITICO.
Kasich, 63, who was overwhelmingly reelected in November, will aim to appear less scripted and guarded than the leading candidates. Advisers say he combines establishment appeal with a conservative record going back to his stint as House Budget Committee chairman, during his 18 years as a congressman from Ohio.
On the one hand, Kasich appears to be about as non-horrible a person as you could expect a 2016 Republican candidate to be. On the other hand, that's gonna make him a pretty long shot in the 2016 GOP primary, especially given that he'll be competing with other "mainstream" candidates like...well, I guess like what Jeb, Rubio and Walker supposedly are?
Then again, what the hell; why not. Throw another log on the fire...
Oh, wait; how could I forget??
Chris Christie goes live with presidential campaign website
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Republican Chris Christie’s political team has gone live with a presidential campaign website days before he jumps into the 2016 race.
The new website — www.chrischristie.com — shows the New Jersey governor’s name along with the slogan, “Telling it like it is.”
"Telling it like it is"??? Yeesh.
Anyway, by my count, that's, what...13 or 14 officially announced? I've lost track...
