On Tuesday, Chris Christie will announce his candidacy for president. His campaign website is up and running. He's gotten promises of big checks from prominent Republican donors. And his approval rating---generally indicative of someone's political strength---holds promise for his nascent campaign, hovering at a solid 30 percent.
…wait, what? Isn't that a bad thing? Like, politically fatal? Does he have any chance at all? (No.)
As someone who has lived through the entirety of Governor Chris Christie's tenure, I can tell you that this isn't a new thing---this being doomed enterprises fueled by ego and cash.
New Jersey's botched attempt at getting Race to the Top funding? Literally just a massive clerical error. (And Christie calls President Obama incompetent---irony is a wonderful thing.)
Disaster relief money for Hoboken? Threatened over the interests of a politically-connected developer.
Christie's terrifying ability to block any progressive legislation, even when it looks veto-proof? He's got nearly the entire GOP caucus terrified, with only one or two willing to openly defy him.
And now this man wants to be president?
Apparently the clown car does have room for a fourteenth passenger. Never mind the fact that he doesn't have a chance.
Part Two of this wonderful diary is a little, paragraph-long rant at the New Jersey Democratic Party. How on EARTH did they manage to let him win twice? If they'd had the nerve to criticize him back in 2013, they'd have realized he was only bulletproof on Sandy recovery (which I grudgingly give him credit for.) If they'd had the nerve to push Jon Corzine into retirement rather than let him run for reelection, they'd have been able to keep him out of office entirely. Corzine was corrupt and useless, and everyone knew it (there's a reason he's in the MF Global mess.)
The New Jersey Democratic Party is incompetent and corrupt. Chris Christie is an egotistical, ideologically ambiguous, corrupt, domineering politician.
America, I apologize. We apologize. Normally, our high-profile politicians end up with nasty corruption investigations that keep them off the national stage. Somehow, this one avoided all the investigations, and he's running for president.
Please, prevent him from winning. Stop him at all costs. It would be an utter disaster if he were elected president.
