So the Texas AG and others are concerned about the deeply held religious beliefs of County clerks. The bible never says gays shouldn't marry, but it does specifically talk about divorce and remarriage.
Has any one asked the GOP candidates whether they would support a clerk who refuses to issue a certificate to a couple where one or both of them are divorced? After all, the bible is specific on this, and a clerk with a deeply held religious belief shouldn't have to facilitate adultery.
I would love to see a journalist pursue this. Follow over the orange croissant for more about the relevant bible verses absolutely forbidding such marriages.
Matthew 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery
Oh no! The County clerk would be an accessory to adultery.
Mark 10:10-12 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
Luke 16:18 "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery
Malachi 2:16 "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith
No wiggle room there, divorce is hateful in God's eyes. Surely it is unbiblical to issue marriage licenses to those sinners.
Matthew 19:9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.
It's very clear, God hates divorce. And while the bible recognizes it may occur, Jesus specifically speaks against remarriage whie the divorced spouse is alive. So where is the outrage over the believing County clerks forced to violate God's law?
