The last few days have been truly amazing in the wake of the US Supreme Court's ruling in favor of marriage equality. Most folks have been quite happy about it, and some folks (like me) have been ebullient. Many on the religious right fringe have been crazy and offensive as always. And, then there are those who wonder what is next. I thought I'd take a look at a couple of unusual responses to the marriage equality ruling and gay rights and gay people in general. Follow me below the fold for more.

The following is a video that was posted online in response to marriage equality and the folks who support our rights. This group of folks (ironically) fears they will become outcasts.
The projection and passive-aggressiveness is palpable, isn't it.
Well, first of all, everyone believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. No one is trying to do away with that. What these folks are NOT saying is the truth that they believe that same-sex couples cannot be married. Most of us disagree with that.
It is true that I have labeled some folks online who do not support our marriage rights as homophobes and/or bigots in an effort to get them to think about it and form a better opinion and/or arguments. That seems pointless now, for the most part. Most of the folks who disagree with us are not going to change their minds. I will still challenge them as to why, because there really is no justifiable reason to be against marriage equality, or at least I haven't heard one yet. Religious beliefs are not an acceptable reason to oppose CIVIL marriage for same-sex couples. And, I haven't really heard any decent religious reasons to oppose marriage equality in a religious context either. But, since religion is personal beliefs as oppose to logical or scientific facts, I'll let that go.
It also needs to be stated that these folks are Christians, and Christians are in the majority in this country, last time I checked. It certainly IS true that they are not alone. And, if these folks are Catholic, they make up the largest Christian organization/denomination in the nation (and, the world).
JMG posted a response video this morning.
What do you think?
And, then it also looks like some of our opposition are taking their queues from Porno Pete and posting or publishing gay porn. John Shore, NALT Chistians co-founder, posted this on his blog.
I was idly browsing the books section of my local Craigslist site when I came across the books below. I believe they suffice as evidence that somewhere along the way, Christian fundamentalists decided to operate from within the ranks of their enemy by publishing gay porn.
The first book that he posts the cover of is "Choice" and the second one is "The Lesbians Teach The Older Woman How To Be A Lesbian". I'm not going to post the pictures ... you can see them for yourself at John's site. And, John then responds:
The lessons we must assume these books attempt to impart? The title of the first book speaks for itself. My guess is that the second book seeks to prove that once a woman is taught to be a lesbian, two things happen to her: 1. her natural, God-given instincts for putting together a matching lingerie ensemble goes on the fritz, and 2. where once she yearned only to cook in the kitchen, now she is irresistibly drawn to fixing plumbing problems with the kitchen sink.
How sad.
How sad indeed.
In spite of the above, there are many persons of faith who are celebrating marriage equality. We keep a close eye on the far right religious fringe, because we ignore them at out own peril. But, there is plenty of good coming from many organizations and people of faith.
From Think Progress:
Yet even as Huckabee and others invoked God in their opposition to the court’s decision, the move to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide was actually lauded by a multitude spiritual leaders and religious communities across the country. In fact, despite conservative claims to the contrary, people of faith are deeply supportive of LGBT rights in the United States, as recent polls show majorities of nearly every major American Christian group now back marriage equality.
Several Christian organizations, for example, issued statements celebrating the change, including the Presbyterian Church (USA), which voted earlier this year to endorse marriage equality as a denomination.
Over in Portland, Oregon, pastors and delegates attending the annual conference of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) — which has a long history of supporting LGBT rights — responded to the news with prayerful glee. Rev. Nathan Ryan, a minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, told ThinkProgress that he heard people shouting as information about the case began to trickle in, with many LGBT Unitarian Universalists excitedly texting friends during worship soon thereafter.
Meanwhile, in Cleveland, Ohio, the annual assembly of the United Church of Christ (UCC) reportedly burst into cheers upon hearing the news, with many rushing down the block to join a rally and pray to “thank God for bestowing equality on all couples, and for an end for other discrimination and violence against God’s children.” UCC pastors then erected a tent to recruit ministers to wed same-sex couples, and many began blessing unions in front of city hall.
The news triggered a similar response in Salt Lake City, Utah, where members of the Episcopal Church — which, like the UCC, ordains openly LGBT people and technically already allows many priests to officiate same-sex marriages — were debating whether or not to approve a full, formal embrace of marriage equality. According to the Episcopal News Service, people began applauding in various committee meetings throughout the convention center as they learned of the decision, and several longtime supporters of LGBT rights within the church expressed joy at the new law.
As of today,
Episcopalians have approved marriage equality and will allow religious wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples.

A nearly lyrical roast! Awesome comment by yojimbo in weinenkel's diary.

I found this comment from Technomancer in cdub24's diary to be clear and refreshing.

It's always a "long hard slog" for change. And the last paragraph in this comment by StellaRay is one all of us would do well to remember. It's found in Kerry Eleveld's diary, Obama's approval ratings get a bounce from best week ever.
From KDfrAZ:
In Hunter's terrific diary about the fact Mexico won't send contests to The Donald's beauty pageants, DetroitMechWorks started the ball rolling in this comment by suggesting a new reality show for Mr. Trump. Grover promptly took it to the next level, and I howled.
