Early July 2015
There is one Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa in the Milkweed family) in my sideyard. I often post photos or write a bucket about it when it blooms, as do y'all. It's colorful pretty and draws interesting bugs and butterflies. Once in awhile those blooms get pollinated and produce a pod.
- Curious about something you saw while walking in the woods? Spot the coolest bug ever? The prettiest flower and butterfly? Stumble on a rock and found a fossil? Or was it? This is the place to show your discoveries and share in the knowledge of the natural world right outside our doors. Join in the fun everyday at The Daily Bucket.
Here's one I first saw back on June 8 - so tiny I wasn't sure if it was just another pedicel gone bust, one more among a hundred blooms that didn't get triggered.
Last day of June established that yes there is a pod.
And here we are this morning, this fine Sunday morning on the day after that USA holiday which some view as a holy-day.
Big storm again today - coming from the west as always but drifting SE instead of NW like the last week. Expecting 1-2 inches. Folks in Tallahassee are still cleaning up from the big blow last week (wind bursts 40-70 MPH). I saw a dozen cherrypickers parked near Capital Circle - cleanup crews for all the pines (Loblolly mostly) that were not up to snuff. It's a good thing to have these little blows to test the trees and cull the weak ones before we get a hurricane that really messes it up. I feel safe myself with my cover of Hickory, Live Oak, Sweet Gum, Southern Magnolia, et al.
It's that time - Cardinals are at the birdbath. Right now there are 3 sitting in it. What a hoot! Even better - a Carolina Chickadee, they don't come down often. And now Northern Parula trying to get in, chased off by the Chickadee. Too funny....
See ya all in the comments.
