Rant time.
I'm black. I'm female. Married to an afro-latino. Some of my godchildren are gay and one is transgender. I have two life-threatening pre-existing medical conditions - for which I am currently covered.
I have incarcerated family members and friends. I have fought in my state against prison gerrymandering (we won), and against criminal injustice for over 50 years.
I lost two significant others to gun violence - one killed by police.
I buried family members and friends who died of AIDS who had no access to life-saving medical treatment.
I'm in a union, and fight for living wages for workers.
I'm fighting against voter suppression. The right to vote in my family was paid for in blood, and I will continue that battle.
My "issues" are not "identity politics" as they have been portrayed by some people here.
My issues are directly the result of the fabric of systemic racism and sexism, xenophobia and economic oppression in this country.
I am going to vote for a Democrat for President, when November 2016 rolls around. I'll be voting for them in state and local elections too.
Day in and day out I read primary diaries on this site. Some I agree with, some I don't.
I draw the line when I read statements like this one referring to Hillary Clinton:
None of these things (either alone or taken together) will make me vote for her in the Democratic primary, or the 2016 general election.
(my bold) and other comments chiming in agreement.
You all want to recommend that, or agree with it, so be it.
But as far as I'm concerned you are now going after me and mine.
Three women on the Supreme Court right now stand against the clock being shoved back to before 1865.
I'm not going to silently stand by and co-sign anything that might get any of the clown car Republican racist/sexists a bed in the White House. I want to see some of them, as many as possible kicked out of the Senate, Congress and state houses too.
Y'all keep on promoting your primary candidate of choice. But when the time for the general rolls around we are going to need every vote.
I am not taking 10 steps back for anyone.
