End of July 2015
Sure would like to show y'all a photo of my big morning event. It happened about 5 minutes ago so I'm still excited. Not as much as the day the 4 river otters strolled thru my yard but still it was unusual.
When it first caught my eye as I glanced out the window by my desk, I thought What, a Pigeon? Then I hoped for a Cooper's Hawk since it did look dark with the wet and I've never seen one up close. OK, it's a Red-Shouldered Hawk - never seen one of those so close before either.
It was in the 3 foot birdbath for quite a bit. Long enough to grab the binocs and stare down what ID points I could remember, but not long enough to get the batteries out of the charger and into the camera -- sigh, wouldn't ya know...
So the hawk dabbled a bit, drank some. I must have missed the flapping part because it was well soaked already. And it did a 180 for me so I could see all sides before it lifted off. Best guess from looking at a bird guide is that it was a juvenile, most likely the one that hatched in the tree next door a few months ago.
That's it for this bucket. Sorry you don't get a photo of "My Big Event" but drop down into the comments and I'll work on posting a few backyard shots from the week.
