...without a live camera feed as a legal witness and documentation of record, linked directly to and under the sole jurisdiction of an independent body set up as a national public database and authority of record requiring no FOIA request or fees to access - accessible online
Further: Every LEO must immediately inform any person that they are free to go unless the LEO first and foremost, states for the record, live on camera, his/her reasonable suspicion and/or probable cause. Any violation of or non-compliance of this statute by a LEO shall constitute grounds for the offending officer's arrest, immediate charges to be filed and jail time for the violation
In addition to charges for non-compliance; LEO violation or non-compliance resulting in injury shall be deemed just cause for permanent removal from current and future law enforcement employment
- That's the idea for a law I've been tossing around for awhile now. If the police insist on engaging a person in any way it must be documented in real time by an independent body
Police forces have been treated with so much leniency that they actually view themselves as victims nowadays; getting the notion that they are in charge and have the right to demand compliance of the people. That is the opposite of the job of public service.
The death toll especially amongst people of color is the direct indisputable result of this kind of hubris - imo
We also need more information. Knowledge is a good thing. We really could use a national database of lethal police shootings and encounters with the people. We as a nation have no real idea how many deaths there are. We really should. Voluntary reporting compliance by the police doesn't cut it. We ought to at least start tracking deadly police force as Representative Steve Cohen (D) of Tennessee is advocating in this video.
Ianal and neither are my words legal words, but this is an idea of a new rule I've been mulling over that could maybe put the "protect", "peace" and "serve" back into law enforcement, and re-establish officers hired to do the job of peace keeping public servants instead of occupying forces that have wrongly come to believe it is their job to dispense justice with the very predictable, historically inevitable result. A brand of justice that just isn't
- just a thought - be back after some more ground leveling and patio brick stuff - thanks for stopping by
