About two months ago, a co-worker of mine was talking to me about politics. She told me to go home and pull up the Bernie Sanders website. I had never heard of him. In fact, I forgot to go home and look him up. She's a bit older than me, (31 to be exact!) and she kept talking about this Bernie Sanders guy. I ignored her mostly until she told me how he wanted a $15 minimum wage. I was like, get out of here. I make $8 an hour, so a $15 minimum wage would be so cool for me because it would practically almost double what I make. $15 would mean I'm making real money.
Well, the more I talked to my co-worker the more stuff she told me about Bernie. She told me he wanted to make free college. This got my attention. I didn't go to college after high school because I couldn't afford it. I applied and got in at a couple places, but my parents can't help me out, and I didn't want to take on big loans. So here I am working at CVS part time as a cashier and on weekends I work at a gas station and make $8 an hour there too. Honestly, I fear for my safety at the gas station especially because of robberies or something.
Anyway, I think we need Bernie. If he is President I will make $15 an hour and can probably even go to college some part time or something. In 2016, it will be my first election to vote in ever for President. I had registered in 2012, but did not vote because I thought I could just vote online, but it turns out I was supposed to go to some library to do it and I had to work.
I just think everyone needs to do their best to reach people and tell them about Bernie. If my co-worker had not told me, I would not have known any of this stuff. So she reached one person, and I am reaching others too. I put up on Facebook about Bernie and I have had three of my friends start liking him too and we are going to all reach others. And last night at our Bernie party, I signed up to write positive pieces about Bernie online at places like this and in comments of local news stations on their websites and on Facebook. I am doing my best to reach everyone I can about Bernie because we NEED Bernie.
Please help me reach out to others who need to hear about Bernie. They won't know they need him unless we tell them unless they are some kind of political person or something. Most people just don't look at this stuff. I have always liked political stuff and even I did not know who he was.
And gosh, look at this email I just got from Bernie!!! Over 100,000 people last night! Also, over $500,000 raised!!! Wow!!!
When we started our campaign together, much of the corporate-owned media wrote us off. They said we had no chance, that we couldn’t win, that victory was impossible.
Well, I am here to tell you, friend, it’s not impossible: it’s happening.
Last night, we estimate that 100,000 supporters attended more than 3,500 organizing meetings in all fifty states across the country. It was a historic evening — the largest campaign gathering of this election by a huge margin. And at every event, people signed up to volunteer and committed themselves to building a movement capable of winning an election and reclaiming our democracy from the billionaire class.
In American politics, there are two primary sources of power: organized people, and organized money. Last night proved that we have the people and that we’re well organized.
And so far, we’ve received over 500,000 individual contributions for an average gift of $33.26. But we can’t stop now.
Your $3 contribution today will help us continue to build a movement powerful enough to defeat a billionaire class that has already bought Congress, and now has its sights set on the White House.
July 29 Organizing Meetings
When the people stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.
Not only can we win a Democratic primary and general election, but we can ensure that no one who works a full-time job lives in poverty. We can provide education as a right for all Americans, not just wealthy families. We can guarantee health care as a right, not a privilege, in this country.
Nothing significant in this country happens in terms of change unless a strong grassroots movement takes place.
That’s what we’re building together, and people should not underestimate us.
Add your $3 contribution to our campaign today.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
